Did you know that car seats expire? As an advocate for Safe Kids Worldwide, my daughter Brie and I headed to a car seat safety checkpoint located at a doctor’s office today in Coconut Creek. Since we were there, I decided to go ahead and have my car checked too and found out that I did indeed need to tighten up the straps for my little ones to move less than an inch, a modification was in order! With that being said, did you know that 76% of car seats are installed incorrectly?
That number alone makes these safety checkpoints spearheaded by SKW more than worth it. When you see one, stop by…tips on proper installation will be available, but that’s not all; these checkpoints offer discounted rates for car seats through SKW. To give you an example one family was able to leave this checkpoint location with two brand new car seats for $40 when one normally costs around $60. The goal of these checkpoints is to make sure children are safer in the car when they leave. From an outgrown car seat, to the time for high rise and boosters, SKW makes sure that parents are informed and for someone like me, I get to live my message firsthand and then help spread the word as Mrs. South Florida International. Helping moms and dads alike to understand that car seats are a problem and stopping by these checkpoints, provided to the public for free, really can make a difference…it did for me!
